“One For The Dust”

My father raised us on stories of our coal mining relations, who lived and died in the collieries of South Wales. Over twenty years ago I used those stories to create the “Land of my Fathers” range of mining figures, all based on real characters from our family. One story that has always stuck in my mind was about the miners, covered in coal dust,  first visiting the pub on the way home, before washing in their tin baths in front of the fire.

The image of these tough, hard grafting men, enjoying a pint before returning home has inspired me to make a new addition to our collection. It’s based on the words, my father told me, the miners toasted each other with,

”One for the dust, one for my thirst and one for me!”

Our new miner, complete with his hard earned pint and clay pipe, is the first new piece added to our mining collection in over two decades.

He stands at 9.7" tall.
